We were commissioned by mac birmingham to design and build their new website.
One of the biggest arts centres in the UK, mac birmingham hosts over 300 events a week, including courses, cinema and theatre programmes – all of which need to be listed clearly on their website.
A primary aim was to create a more business-focused site, to increase ticket sales, boost their support campaigns and present their commercial offer more clearly.
The new site integrates with the Spektrix ticketing system – mac’s vast programme makes it the heaviest user of the Spektrix API.
Our integration work involved pulling through a complex set of shows, instances and course terms – something that Spektrix doesn’t natively support so we built a system that 'recreates' courses, meaning they can be searched for on the website.
Further attention was spent on branding the booking process (which are Spektrix web pages) and built-in stylesheets, making it the first fully mobile Spektrix booking process with a seat picker.
Our fully responsive approach made the site, and booking process, much more usable.
The mac team are able to create 'landing pages' for specific sets of events – for example, they can gather all performances, workshops and events which are happening over a school holiday on one page; making groups of events incredibly easy to promote, and incredibly easy for visitors to navigate. Useful!
During the new site's first 12 months, online sales were up a whopping 71% on the previous year.
