Over several months in late 2011/early 2012, people from all over the West Midlands were asked what 'home' means to them. Not out of noseyness but to gather source material for DanceXchange's participatory dance production, Home.
These contributions were incorporated into professionally-choreographed outdoor dance performances, which took place on the streets of Birmingham throughout International Dance Festival Birmingham (IDFB) 2012.
We created Home's visual identity … to an extent. People's contributions were not only incorporated into the production but into the Home identity too, with thoughts of 'home' turned into doodles; giving the project an informal, approachable and 'in-progress' appearance.
The black and white colour palette includes red highlights, to help link Home with the IDFB identity.
We also designed a host of promotional items for the project, including workshop and performance flyers, banners, signage, leaflets, a resource pack and an eflyer template.
Home received over 2,000 contributions from the public altogether, and its 51 free outdoor dance performances were seen by more than 25,000 people; making it International Dance Festival Birmingham's biggest participatory project to date.
