A bunch of ukulele enthusiasts, Hull Ukulele Group (HUG) can turn their dexterous hands to pretty much any genre of music.
They approached us to create an identity for them that reflects the fact they're not your traditional ukulele players. Playing gigs at street festivals, a burlesque night and on top of a narrow boat, and with all manner of music in their songbook (The Ramones, The Jungle Book, Kings of Leon), they wanted a look that sets them apart as a group who're a little … different.
Our solution: an amalgamation of an insect and a ukulele, it's the HUG bug! Well, actually it's a flea. Why? The word 'ukulele' is Hawaiian for jumping flea. All becomes clear.
In addition to the bug character there's a strong, no-nonsense logo and a style of typographical promotional graphics centred around fun and punchy word play. The logo appears in either black or white on solid backgrounds, so the colour palette can be adapted and played around with.
So, for fun, ukuleles and a sing-along set – get the HUG bug!
