The Big Picture

The Big Picture was devised as a participatory project to create both the biggest photo album of the West Midlands – a snapshot of the region – and the biggest photo mosaic in the world.

With photos collected over six months from thousands of people across the region, late June saw the target of 110,000 different photos not only reached but exceeded. The next step was an attempt to break the World Record for the largest photo mosaic. August 23rd 2008 was the big day and we’re delighted to say that the many, many people who contributed images and helped out throughout the project are now joint World Record holders! (Find out more about the event itself on the blog.)

Over the course of the project there were various competitions, calls for images on a certain theme, gallery events and milestones to mark – and that’s where Supercool came in. We designed, built and sent out regular eflyer bulletins to the Big Picture database, making sure everyone was kept in the picture. We also designed the ‘We’ve Done It’ leaflet which was handed out as a commemorative keepsake of this world record breaking event.
